30.01 Over 1,200 Injured in Kiev Protests in 2 Months

KIEV, January 30 (RIA Novosti) – More than 1,200 protesters have been injured since violent mass protests erupted in Kiev late last year, the Ukrainian capital’s city administration said in a statement on Thursday.

“From November 30, 2013 to January 30, 2014, Kiev doctors have rendered medical aid to 1,231 protesters, 681 of them were hospitalized, including 63 currently being treated in city hospitals,” the statement reads.

Protesters in Ukraine took to the streets in November after Yanukovych backed off from signing landmark trade deals with the EU. The movement has since transformed into a loose coalition of opposition groups seeking Yanukovych’s ouster. Earlier this week, the Ukrainian prime minister resigned, prompting the collapse of the government.

A total of 234 people have been detained amid the unrest, 140 of whom are under arrest.
